Freight class is a standardized classification from Class 50 to Class 500 used to classify LTL freight based on its transportation characteristics. The system considers four main factors: density, handling, stowability, and liability. In general, lower freight classes represent freight that is easier to transport, while higher classes represent freight with greater transportation challenges.
